DRS, Dec 9: New BCCI Secretary, Rohit Sharma offers Shami replace & India out of WTC 2025 Closing?

It was a day of disappointment in Indian cricket. Three teams played international cricket and all lost. The men’s and women’s senior teams were thrashed by Australia’s men’s and women’s in Test and ODI cricket, while the men’s under-19 side faced defeat at the hands of Bangladesh. Speaking of Indian cricket, we have a new supremo. Devjit Saikia, the current joint secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has replaced Jay Shah as the Secretary. Rohit Sharma, India’s captain, gave some injury update on Mohammed Shami; the auction list for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 is out, and former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi wants Pakistan to reply back to India if they don’t come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025.

Team India out of WTC 2025 Final?

The India cricket team has gone down from first to third on the WTC points table after losing by 10 wickets in Adelaide. After winning by a whopping 295 runs in Perth, it was expected that Team India would continue their winning ways and make a third consecutive WTC Final, but it’s getting tougher by the game. To confirm their spot, they have to win at least two of the next three games and win a third consecutive series Down Under.

Devjit Saikia, new BCCI Secretary

Current BCCI joint-secretary Devjit Saikia has replaced Jay Shah as the BCCI Secretary. The former cricketer from Assam was appointed for the new role by current BCCI President Roger Binny, who invoked clause 7(1)(d) of the constitution. Saikia will serve as BCCI Secretary until September 2025.

Shami unlikely for India vs Australia Tests

Mohammed Shami’s recovery isn’t going as planned. The right-arm pacer returned to cricket after nearly one year, and while playing for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he has seemingly picked up another injury. Captain Rohit Sharma revealed the insight in Adelaide after losing the India vs Australia 2nd Test.

India lose U19 Asia Cup Final to Bangladesh

Mohamed Amaan’s U19 Indian team couldn’t cross the final hurdle at the U19 Asia Cup 2024. Chasing a modest 199, the Men in Blue lost by 59 runs. The bowlers did well, but it was the batters who stuttered in Dubai. Four batters crossed the 20-run mark, but neither managed to score a fifty. 

WPL 2025 Auction list out

120 players will go under the hammer on December 15. However, only 19 will find a franchise. Of these 19, just 5 are reserved for foreign/overseas players, while domestic/Indian stars will get the remaining 14 spots. Check out the full list of players who registered for the WPL 2025 auction here.

Shahid Afridi urges PCB to give strong reply to BCCI

Tit for tat. That’s what Shahid Afridi wants the PCB to do. If the BCCI doesn’t send Team India to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, he wants the PCB to not send Team Pakistan to India. He wants his board to make strong and principled decisions.
